Sayulita faces NW to the open Pacific with a left and a right in front of a river that only flows peak rainy season approx. Jul-Sep.

Unlike other spots near Vallarta, Sayulita receives swell year round; during the dry season, Nov to April, swells from the NW average chest high or smaller. The south swell season, May to Oct, brings ocasional bigger surf. In general, the best time to come for small, easy, fun, surf and optimal weather is Nov-April. May and June usually see bigger swells starting as well as hotter humid weather.

Keep in mind, that during all major N. American holidays, especially Mexican holidays, Sayulita and the lineups can be very crowded with beginners! Advanced surfers might want to plan on having a vehicle, taking boat trips, or lowering their expectations...

You may want to bring a neoprene rashguard for the wind but a wetsuit is never needed.
