~Always take at least one lesson if you've never surfed~

Important ~ Surf Safety
If you're a beginner, ask the person you're renting a board from, where is the best place to go out. Be honest about your ability. There's a sign in front of Costenos restaurant on the beach that points out the easier section for beginners. Stay wide of the lineup until you're able to paddle proficiently and read waves. Never turn your back on the ocean while waiting for waves- big sets come out of nowhere. Don't be lazy and bail the board when a big wave comes; 9 ft of board and 9 ft of leash means you could clobber someone 12 ft away (9+9=12). Practice controlling the board in the smaller section and watch the best surfers in the water.

Important ~ Board Care & Checkout

When renting surfboards, check for holes in the board and rough nicks on the fins. Any holes or dents (dings) should be fixed immediately as they cause serious damage to the board if ignored and brought back in the water. Fin gouges seem minor on land, but in the water at speed, they can cut skin like a knife. If your fins become nicked, bring the board back and have them sand them down for you.
