- Avioneta - 2nd floor family restaurant one block from the plaza (on the map) all items are around 10 pesos- awesome home cooked food. Only open Fri, Sat, Sun, nights
- Taco Lady - Cecilia sets up 5-6 days a week right on the corner with the internet/video rental 3 blocks north of us. She has about 10 bowls with condiments on her cart. One table and benches on the corner. Usually closed on Sundays, and will move her cart if there’s an event or disco in town.
- Taco Family - New restaurant on the Corral side of Mita next to the TelMex cell phone office. Grilled asada, roasted stuffed potatos and xlnt vegetarian tacos and quesadillas. They don’t have a name yet so we call them taco family to distinguish them from Taco Lady. Sometimes open for lunch as well. Closed Mon and Tues.
- Chicken Lady - Xlnt rotisserie chicken from about 10am to when they sell out on Sat and Sundays only. A whole chicken, tortillas, rice, salsa and potatoes for 80pesos. If they’re sold out you can find asada style (grilled) just around the corner from here (see chicken lady 2 on the map) or on the coral side of town.
- Ricos Tacos - On the corner, a block in from the the 2nd entrance to town on 5 de Mayo is a popular taco stand often open during breakfast and lunch. No bad reviews of this place.
- Mitaz Pizza - Located in the northwest corner of town near the traffic circle and OXXO. Look for the signs on the street and high up on the building. Decent pizza and breads to order. Limited seating- they mostly deliver. Their flyer is on the fridge.
- Bluewater Grill for Lunch - Located at the beach right in front of the marina they have xlnt fish chicken, and steak tacos for 50pesos a plate.
- Debos for Breakfast - Right on the round corner across from the marina entrance, this cafe run by a Texican expat serves american style breakfast and has internet.
- Casa del Pintor - A cute, homestyle breakfast restaurant located on the corner right across from the row of condos on the Emiliano Zapata (south) side of town. Look for the signs.
Beach Restaurants: ( 2 people can eat for $25 on up )
- Margaritas - The most popular restaurant in Punta Mita! The tuna steak, coconut shrimp and the Mexican combo are awesome. Everything on the menu is xlnt except the so-so fish tacos and crab volcano apetizer. The waitstaff are great too and there’s kareoke most nights.
- Bluewater Grill - Amazing fresh caught fish and the best ribeye steaks in town mesquite grilled and served on a wood slab with a roasted poblano chile. Live music almost every night and crazy strong margaritas.
- Mediterraneo - Really good pizza, steak, seafood. Lovely waitstaff. Be sure to specify exactly how you want your pizza (including mentioning red sauce and cheese and you’ll be stoked)
- El Dorado - As new restaurants open up, this old classic isn’t as busy as it used to be but the food is just as good. If you’d like to get away from crowds and vendors, choose the 2nd floor palapa patio for a romantic view of the ocean and warm, and personable service. The butter and garlic fresh fish is highly recommended.
- El Coral - Great venue for watching the surf at Anclote and great mexican seafood. Try the limeade drink ‘limonata’ on a hot day in the sun.
These are only Punta de Mita restaurants on this list. There are many more xlnt restaurants in La Cruz, Bucerias, and Sayulita less than a half hour drive away.
You can also make reservations and eat at the top dollar restaurants behind the gates of the new development at the St. Regis, and 4 Seasons.
Tiny, family run restaurants usually don’t have liquor licenses so you can bring your own from the tiendas nearby or ask the waiter and they will send the busboy to buy you one.
Mexican restaurants will never bring you your bill until you ask for it. It is considered rude and the equivalent of ‘kicking you out’ so you’ll always have to ask for “la cuenta por favor”.
