Breakfast & Where to Eat

Gourmet coffee is ready at 6am. Guests may use the large kitchen anytime. Equipped with 6 burner stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator, slow cooker, blender, toaster oven, juicer, food processor, filtered water.

BREAKFAST can be enjoyed about 100 yards away at Ropi's "Casa del Pintor" from 7am to 1pm, across from the Marina at "Debos Cafe", Restaurante "Anclote" and "Blue Water Grill" on the beach, or pastries, bagels and expresso drinks can be had at the new "Boca Deli" on the northermost street in town (about 10min walk)

LUNCH is available from nearly a dozen different restaurants on the "beach restaurant row" just a few blocks away. You can get amazingly fresh fish (that was swimming just a few hours before), plus shrimp, steaks, sandwiches, good ol' hamburgers, and of course LOTS of different authentic Mexican dishes.

During the day, the beach restaurants will let you use their bathrooms, palapas and shaded lounges for free (not 100 pesos like in Sayulita) if you just order some food and drink throughout the day. Let the day melt away as you kick it on the sand and do your shopping from the beach vendors.

There's also a few little local 'loncherias' (lunch restaurants)  and 'cenarias' (dinner restaurants) quite often right in front of the proprietor's house. The choices are likely to be chicken, fish, beef or pork tacos, pozole, enchiladas, gorditas, quesadillas, ceviche, or tostadas. This is where most of the local working people eat, so it's good, inexpensive, and fresh.

DINNER is available from the beach restaurants, several other restaurants a little further from the beach (including a pizza delivery), and from little 'mom and pop' restaurants, operated off the front porch of the owners' homes (these end up becoming most people's favorites).

There are two fish markets nearby or you can head down to the beach to buy fresh fish as it's unloaded from the fishing boats. The potatoes and vegetables and other side dish-makings are available at "La Competidora" grocery store (one block away) where the owner Artemio always has a smile. One small ceramic BBQ is on the roof and doubles as a firepit. Another small BBQ can be used in the back patio.

Mexican restaurants will never bring you your bill until you ask for it. It is considered rude and the equivalent of ‘kicking you out’ so you’ll always have to ask for “la cuenta por favor”.

Shopping for supplies:

Every few blocks there are tiny tiendas (stores) for basic supplies like bread, eggs, drinks, produce. There are three within a two minute walk of our place and a bigger one on the highway called “supermercado” with a bigger selection about an 8 min walk away. Sometimes the better cheeses are in large blocks in the refrigerator at tiendas so you must ask for 1/4 or 1/2 kilo and they will cut and weigh it out for you. In fact, whatever you need and don't see, just ask for and they may have.

A gourmet grocery is open during the winter called Agro-gourmet with organic and imported goods and produce.

If you’d like to stock up at an American style large grocery, there is one in Bucerias called MEGA a half hour drive away. The local bus goes directly there for 10 pesos.
