1. Are the camp start dates flexible?
Only the indepandant stay is flexible. You can however, come a day or two early and stay a day or two late if you'd like. We can do a customized trip anytime if you have a group of 5 or more.
2. What is the age makeup of campers?
Average is mid 20s . Most have tried surfing before. Slightly more females than males.
3. Can my friends I just met 5 minutes ago tag along and not pay?
Sorry. We owe it to you, the paying guest not to be inconvienienced in any way by the non-paying guest. Friends and family members of campers are welcome on the horseback, canopy, and snorkeling trips however, on a space available basis for the appropriate fee.
4. What is the size of the surf in Jan, Feb, March, April, etc...?
In the dry season, November to April, the surf rarely gets over 4 ft. Perfect for learning. In the wet season, May through Oct, big swells CAN come up from the south bringing bigger surf. The surf and waves change week to week.
5. Do you take people under 18?
Yes. We've had several parent/teenager combos on our trips. Now, you need a letter from only one parent instead of both as it had been in the past. But starting Jan '07 you'll need a passport.
6. Im not in shape and I'm intimidated I will really suck. I took a couple lessons and I didn't get very far.
Well, this is where you'll learn by doing it! The camp is geared towards improving and learning. All the surf were aiming for is beginner, fun surf. Learning to read waves takes years. Surfing with experienced surfers over the course of a week will jumpstart your surfing and get you on your way.
7. What is the weather like in May? Will it rain?
It could rain in both May and/or June but usually it doesn't start raining every day until late June. We have shelters for the rain as well as rain flys for all tents. It does start to get hot and humid mid-May.
8. Are your trips every cancelled for lack of participants? Should I get Travel Insurance?
We've never cancelled a trip for lack of participants. You should get travel insurance for your own peace of mind if you're inclined to.
9. Do you have a CD player? Should I bring mine?
Bring it if you'd like, but best to just bring CDs! We have a CD/DVD player for you to use, the truck has iPod input and we usually have a laptop at camp to use. You can rent movies right across the street. There are 3-5 internet cafes in town at any given time.
10. Are all your boards soft foam boards? I want to try a short board.
We have a large variety of boards, including high performance short boards. We use epoxy SoftTops by SurfTech because we've found them to be the lightest, best-performing beginner board. There is no extra charge for using any of our fiberglass boards including short boards. Most of our clients have tried surfing already and are then welcome to use any board in the quiver.
